COTSWOLD BREEDERS ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING Phoenix, AZ October 9, 2004 Present: Scott, Wendy and Morgan Garrison; Debbie, Serena and Seth Kunic; Kathy Culpepper representing Ohman Livestock; Art Boster & Kathy Gasson, Bill & Liz South, Linda Swanson, Tony & Ann Kaminski. Secretary Report- Minutes of last year’s meeting were published in Newsletter last year. No objections or revisions were received. Treasurer’s Report approved. It will be reprinted in next Newsletter. Discussion on Old Business: Website needs to be up by end of January 2005, where people can find us and register their sheep on line. Linda Swanson and Tony Kaminski had models. Motioned and approved to make maximum of $500 available to Tony Kaminski to finish the site. General Cotswold information, specific CBA info, and Lamb lists will be available. Breeders may choose to be listed or not, according to their preference. Links to breeders’ sites, classifieds, etc. should be available for a fee. Directors are not all contributing to Newsletter, which is part of their required tasks. They should also make an effort to attend Annual Meeting. Directors need to be more active. They should also be trying to meet or call people in their area. To help enable them to do this the Registrar will email them a list of people in their area on a quarterly basis. The Registrar will also send 50 new Brochures to each Director in the spring so they can help promote the organization w/people in their area and also at shows and fairs. (Brochures are always available from Registrar at no cost, provided they give Registrar ample lead time to print them. If breeders prefer to copy the Brochures at their own expense they may do so. ) To better serve the members, it was suggested that every so often we check numbers to see if we need to redistrict each area. Motioned and passed to request membership to vote on whether to redistrict (when needed). Figures for current members in each district will be given when asked this question on ballot November 2004. If approved, suggestions will be printed in February 2005 Newsletter w/request for input, comments or suggestions. New districts vote would be part of November 2005 ballot. New Business: Logo – Members would like to see attractive logo. Requests for artwork will appear in next Newsletter. Designs will be reviewed in February 2005. Premier Breeder Cup/Plate/Bowl – Kathy Gasson suggested and members agreed to look into cost of award to reside with winner of National Show, to be inscribed with winner’s name and passed on each year. Debbie Kunic will be checking on costs. It might also be possible to have a mini version available for sale as a money maker. Bill & Liz South have offered to assemble Lamb Production Books they designed, that include some basic CBA and lamb info along w/pages to enter basic stats on lambs as they are born. CBA would cover printing costs and these books will be sent out to members when they pay their dues each year. Motioned and approved to clarify Junior membership age. Motioned made and passed to bring to members a vote that Junior memberships end January 1s after 19th birthday. Request was made, motioned and passed to put question in ballot to define Breed Standard that is attached to our By-Laws. It needs to reflect whether white and colored Cotswolds should or should not be exhibited in same classes during a show. A no vote would not prohibit choosing a Supreme Champion at a show, however, where White Champion could go against Colored Champion for Supreme as was done at National Show in Rhinebeck, NY in 2002. Ann Kaminski will be checking with Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival for possibility to establish their May 7&8 show as our National Show for 2005. In 2006 the show needs to return to North Central, hopefully under leadership of Jack & Dana Cormack. We are trying to line shows up 3 years in advance. We are also trying to find shows that do not require multiple blood tests, as that might be cost prohibitive to many breeders. Scott Garrison reported on last year’s request to find a way to have a National Cotswold Show & Sale run by Banner Sales in Springfield, IL on a Friday in June, 2005. Motioned and approved to spread word in Newsletter, and request support of sale by all members. They would need 50 Cotswolds. It could become new way to popularize our breed. People should network to find rides for animals they would like to put into sale. All white W or C/W registered animals would be accepted. There must be 2 ewes for each ram sold. Respectfully submitted, Ann Kaminski for Jane Caulfield |
